TRAFFIC SAFETY: Parking and Dropoff Procedures

Please take a moment to review the parking and dropoff procedures for school. These procedures may result in an inconvenience for adults, but the greater issue is one of student safety. Adults need to model safe and responsible behavior. Please take time to teach your children about automobile safety. Thank you for your cooperation on this important matter.

General Rules for Bogert Avenue:

  • During school hours Bogert Avenue is ONE WAY. Please use the drop-off section on the right side (school side) of Bogert at the curb right in front of the school for QUICK stops to discharge students. There is no parking on the school side of Bogert in the morning. It is the drop off waiting line.

  • Students should be seated on the CURB side of the car. They should be able to unbuckle their seat belt and exit the car on their own. Drivers are not to leave the driver’s seat. Once your child has exited the car, please continue on towards Meadowbrook. Teachers are posted at each door insure that your child gets safely inside the building.

  • Do not drop off children at or before the island. Doing so backs up traffic onto Glen Avenue.

  • If you need to escort your child into school, please leave the drop-off area and park beyond the school or on the left side of Bogert.

  • The school’s circular driveway must be clear at all times for bus loading and unloading.

General Rules for Fairfield Avenue:

  • Please use the cut out to drop off students. Pull up as far as you can to maximize the number of cars that can drop off at one time.

  • Students should be seated on the CURB side of the car. They should be able to unbuckle their seat belt and exit the car on their own. Drivers are not to leave the driver’s seat.

  • DO NOT double park at any time. It is extremely dangerous for children to walk between parked cars.

  • Fairfield is two way at all times and parking is illegal on BOTH sides of Fairfield north of Downs. Stopping or standing is prohibited on the west side of Fairfield and may NOT be used as a drop off.

Suggestions:

  • The Ridgewood elementary schools were designed as neighborhood schools so that children could walk to school. Whenever possible, please have your children walk to and from school with neighborhood friends.

  • Carpool whenever possible.

  • It may be helpful to park elsewhere and have your child walk to an agreed up on meeting location. Meadowbrook Avenue is an ideal street to do this.
